Fall has arrived!

Ready or not, fall is upon us. And I think I can happily say we are ready!  College football, campfires, chili, Da Bears, Nebraska in the Big 10 (IU welcomes you!), leaves changing color, Cooper's first Halloween, tilling and reseeding the entire yard, etc., etc,........we are excited for it all!  All except the cold weather that is (oh and maybe the yard reseeding project that is currently underway as I write).  Cool crisp air, throw on a hoodie or a fleece and that favorite pair of jeans, I am fine with that.  But 38 degree mornings, and yes that is what we had the other day, I am not ready for that.  Let's just not skip ahead to winter pleeeeasse!!! Fall is the Richard Family's favorite season, and we have a packed one coming up.  A few weddings, a trip to Dayton to see brother Bryan play, a mini vacation in Florida with both parents, a visit from Aunt Heather, a visit from our old Chicago crew the Gerrards and Wolskis, a little family fun rivalry with the Connell Hawkeyes (sp?) and Richard Huskers, and plenty of HUSKER FOOTBALL!!!  In case you are wondering, we as a family decided to be Husker Football fans and Hoosier Basketball Fans.  Fair trade off I think.  Coop's got both outfits ready to rock!!

Our new Exersaucer from our back door neighbor, Beth. She has 3 boys but her youngest is now 9 months and not quite interested anymore, perfect for us, Coop loves it!!!

The yard............dead.
(Andy and Ryan Mendlik killed it two weeks ago, right before we had 30 people over for a wedding shower. Nice timing, right?)

Grandpa Sapp and Andy working away.  Quite a project!

A little Giggle!

2 Busy Weeks!

Sorry it has been awhile, the Richard family has had two very fun, but very busy weeks.  Over the past two weeks, we had a trip to Chicago, a labor day BBQ, two weddings, a wedding shower, and a few Rabies shots in between!  Cooper has been doing great and getting more and more interactive and adorable each day.  He has been handling the shots well, and has his last one on Thursday.  We will be glad when this is all over! And for those of you who are wondering, we think the bat came in through the chimney, so we are having someone come take a look and hopefully cover it with some mesh.  And for the rest of you who are wondering and suggesting, I don't think Cooper is going to be a bat, batman, or a vampire for Halloween.  Sorry to disappoint ;)

As always, here are some great pictures.....

Is that a BAT?????!!!!!!!

Yes it was a bat, yes it was in our house, and yes we found it flying around our precious son's room Thursday morning! Ok, let me back up.  First, so you can all get a good picture of what I am talking about, this is what the scary little creature looked like:

Ok never mind, I was going to post an image from google of a bat, but when I looked it up there were the most horrifying pictures of bats that I immediately had to X out of the screen. I hate bats, did I mention that? But seriously, does anyone really like them?

But here's the story anyhow: Thursday morning I went into Cooper's room around 5:30a.m. to feed him before I left for work.  He wasn't quite awake so I was going to give him a few extra minutes to snooze, so I sat down in the chair in his room.  As I was just reclining to relax for a minute, I heard a flapping noise and looked up to see a little winged creature flying around the room. I knew immediately what it was and sprinted out of the room screaming for Andy.  He came sprinting down from our room and was not only horrified that there was a bat in Cooper's room, but was also horrified to see that I had not grabbed Cooper out of the room in my panicked escape!!  I feel like a horrible mother, but luckily Coop was just sleeping away the whole time.  To make a long story short, while Andy got out some "bat-catching" gear, I googled "how to catch a bat".  We caught the bat in just a few minutes with a container and let it out outside (and when I say we, I mean Andy because I was too scared to go in the room, and yes we did get Cooper out by this point).

Poor Cooper now has to go through the post-exposure Rabies Vaccine because we are not sure if he was bit or not by the bat. Apparently bats have these tiny fangs that when they bite it does not leave a mark nor can you hardly feel it, so if a bat is in the room with an unattended child the child must be vaccinated.  The chances that Coop actually got bit and that the bat even had rabies are slim to none, but rabies is fatal, so needless to say we are not taking any chances. Also scary that there have been 3 bats found in the Omaha area with rabies recently, so everyone is hyped up around here anyway about bats.  Unfortunately the Rabies Vaccine is a series of 5 shots; Cooper has gotten the 1st set (which included 3) and then had to get 3 of his 4mo vaccines today.  6 shots in 2 days, that's what I call a rough day at the office. His poor legs, good thing there are getting chubbier!

But he's still smiling away, and looking forward to the start of Football season!

I now weigh 13lbs and am in the 20th% for weight, 42nd% for length, and 19th% for head circumference. Dad says this is good, especially the head size, for some reason he was worried about that!
